Eurasian Thick-knee

Stone curlew - the popular name of this bird, taken in the southern regions of the USSR. In people, it is also called egg and bug-eyed.
Stone curlew - a medium-sized bird with inconspicuous color, strong claws and sharp beak and long wings. On the legs in most species is thickened heel joint. Three fingers are connected by a thin membrane, finger rearward missing. Eyes are large with yellow iris.
Stone curlew - energetic, agile bird. Usually fly close to the ground. Legs in flight directed far back.
This bird eats carnivorous snails, frogs, lizards, mice.
Nest settles in the ground, the female usually lays 2-3 eggs, which are similar in size to the chicken.
Homeland of these birds - Southern Europe, North Africa and Central Asia. The bird is not gregarious, prefers solitude. Live prefers steppes and deserts. Active at night, well run and fly. On the territory of Russia - is the only member of the family. The bird can be found in the Lower Volga region, the Caucasus, southern Orenburg region.
